Amanda Brugel

Pointe Claire resides in a sleepy part of Montreal Island called West Island. The West Island has a lot of communities. Many who've never been aware of it frequently confuse it with a separate island facing west. Amanda Brugel was born there, but her time was not long in the city. Brugel grew-up in Courtice close to Oshawa, Ontario. Early ambitions were to become an expert dancer. Then, a growth rate increased her height and she outgrew her dance partners she had. In an interview with the Toronto Star, she confessed that "In heels I am 6 feet 1 inches." When I surpassed any male partner, I stopped. Many former dancers turn to acting and in the case of Brugel, it was the result of a recommendation from her high school teacher in drama. Her teacher invited her to audition for a part in her school's production. It was her choice to take on the principal part of Anne of Green Gables after she tried out. The show was granted a Fine Arts Talent Scholarship to take part in York University's Theater Program and graduated at the age of 20 with a bachelor's degree in Fine Arts. Her career spans 20 years and she's been in over 60 productions, both on big screens and on smaller ones. Her most notable role was as Rita (pictured beneath) in the television show The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel made an appearance on only a handful of moments in the very first season of The Handmaid's Tale. She was the only Canadian participant.
